It Takes Two Farm

Spruce Hill Farm

As most of you have heard there was a devastating fire at Spruce Hill Farm (Amy and Dana Sterling's) in Windham on Dec 10, 2008.  The fire was found at 4:30 am as Amy and Alicha started their feeding routine.  They found the barn filled with smoke and called 911.  They lost 8 horses as well as all tack, equipment and the barn.  The Windham fire chief and Rachel Flaherty of Maine Equine Associates confirmed that the horses did not suffer as they had fallen asleep from smoke inhalation.  There were 5 horses in a detatched barn that were unharmed.

The beloved horses that were lost today are:

Lil' of Buckskin (Monty) owned by Elizabeth Cole
The Whole Nine Yards (Ripley) owned by Taylor Duncanson
The Moxie Man (Lucky) owned by Brittany and Jenna Costa
A Romantic Cowboy (Cowboy) owned by Julia Jordan and Abigail Smith
The Scottish Verse (Scotty) owned by Haley Jordan
MWS Flash Mea Double (Sandy) owned by Marti Beaulieu
Zipped Outa Town (Doc) owned by Caitlin Sarah Putnam
Ayesgarth Zeus (Zeus) owned by Amy & Dana Sterling

Through this difficult time Amy and Dana want to thank everyone for their help and support.  Special thanks goes out to the firemen, Rachel Flaherty of Maine Equine Assoc, Troy Pride, Longhorn Pet Supply, Blue Seal Feeds and friends, family and neighbors.

The horses were not only show horses; they were family and will be greatly missed.  They won't be remembered for their show records but for the smiles they brought to everyone's faces. No one ever thinks that anything like this will happen to them.  It is an utter tragedy.  As all of you know these horses were very well loved and taken care of.  Sometimes there are no answers as to "why this happens to good people".

Donations for the Spruce Hill Farm Fund can be sent in care of Crystal Stover at the address above or accounts have been opened at Evergreen Credit Union.
